The Ask
Elin came to me after spending months trying to build her website herself.
She'd bought a template thinking it would make the process fairly straightforward, but between learning the platform, working out what needed to go where, and actually finding the time to do it, the website kept getting pushed to the bottom of the list.
She'd spoken to other designers along the way but hadn't found the right fit. When we first spoke, I broke down how I'd approach it: keep the template she'd already invested in, start fresh with the build and work through everything else together.
Because the website wasn't really just a design problem. There was quite a bit to figure out first.
The Plan
Elin works across weddings, branding and events, which meant the website needed to speak to three quite different clients without feeling like three different businesses.
We mapped out a structure that brought everything together, while giving each area its own space and a clear path for people to find what was relevant to them. We also worked through Elin's services and packages, simplifying how they were presented and making it easier for someone to understand what they could book her for.
Visually, I kept things intentionally simple.
Elin's photography already has such a strong artistic style that it didn't need another visual identity competing with it. Her work became the hero, and the website was designed around it, giving the images plenty of space while quietly doing all the practical work underneath.
The Outcome
Instead of trying to patch together the website Elin had been working on, I rebuilt it from the ground up using the template she'd already chosen.
The finished site brought her different areas of photography together in a way that made sense, with a much clearer journey for the people using it and a simpler way to explore her work, understand her offerings and make an enquiry.
And just one week after launching, Elin booked one of her new elopement packages (one of the offerings we'd worked together to introduce and structure as part of the website project)
It also meant Elin could finally take the website off her own to-do list.
What had become months of trying to figure it all out herself became a much more straightforward process once we could work through the decisions together. Sometimes the value isn't in starting with something completely new. It's knowing what to keep, what to change and how to pull everything together.
“I’m so happy I found Alana, she really is a Gunn. She understood my vision perfectly and brought so much thoughtfulness and clarity to my brand. She intuitively had a clear picture of what I needed. I instantly felt that she got me and what I was after.
Working with Alana was effortless. She has an incredible eye for design, but she’s equally strong on the practical side: structured, responsive, fast, and understood what my clients would need.
She has a great ability to see the big picture, is very intentional with every detail and packaged everything into a beautifully structured, user-friendly experience.
I’m so glad I jumped off the DIY path and just let her do it all!”
